Patented in-house developed SafeCharge™ technology
Primarily recognized for our cutting-edge LFP lithium battery designs and widely used in the recreational, residential, commercial, telecom and military industries, we are proud to announce the filing of a patent for our SafeChargeTM technology. Developed in-house, this technology is exclusive to Volthium throughout North America.
SafeCharge™ technology makes LFP batteries accessible to more people
The invention developed by our engineering department brings a major technical simplification promoting the adoption of LifePO4 batteries for users of deep cycle batteries. For users who want to replace their deep cycle batteries with lead-acid technology (including AGM, whether 6V or 12V), the addition of accessories to protect the alternator is necessary.
In addition, the intervention of a qualified technician and the addition of additional hardware are essential.
On the other hand, the cost of labor coupled with the cost of additional accessories required for integration are not the only obstacle to the adoption of LifePO4 technology. Indeed, long wait times for an installation appointment are another significant source of frustration for potential users.
In addition, some users are abandoning LFP because this battery technology, although full of unparalleled advantages, does not allow them to carry out the installation themselves in a simple way. Therefore, for these customers who wanted to do the installation themselves and did not want to use the services of a professional installer, who was often expensive, the purchase of a lead-acid battery remained the simplest solution until then.
Therefore, for these customers who wish to carry out the installation themselves and are reluctant to use the services of a professional installer, which is often expensive, the purchase of a lead-acid battery has been preferable until now to date.
Fewer threads, more elegance
All of these issues are solved with our new patented SafeCharge technology.
Indeed, our SafeChargeTM technology is integrated into the BMS (battery management system), it allows you to communicate directly with the SafeChargeTM current limiter (replacing the traditional DC-DC), also developed in-house. Our innovation allows the original wiring to be retained, making it easy to directly replace a lead-acid battery with a lithium battery. This compatibility is made possible in particular by connecting the current limiter directly to the battery, via a dedicated port.
This eliminates the need to intercept wiring and install accessories. The addition of our simpleSafeChargeTM current limiter allows for a transition to LiFePO₄ technology without the need for a technician, unlike competitive solutions.
New horizons and partnerships
With this innovation, we have been able to expand our product offering to the starter battery segment and thus strengthen our market positioning. Service trucks, Class 8 long-haul trucks and farm machinery can now benefit from our Canadian innovation, allowing them to reduce both battery purchase and maintenance costs, as well as their fuel consumption.
At the same time, they contribute to the collective effort to reduce greenhouse gases by limiting periods of engine idling. Indeed, lithium batteries, offering a higher energy capacity, make it unnecessary to use the combustion engine to power the accessories and the heating system on board.
Our innovation has already won over one of the largest distributors in North America.
Indeed, we are very proud to announce that NAPA CANADA has just entered the parade of Lithium LFP batteries, and Volthium has been selected as the manufacturer to make their batteries. NAPA CANADA thus becomes the first major distributor in North America to get its hands on Volthium’s patented technology.
In fact, according to UAP (the Canadian division of Genuine Parts Company), the Canadian network includes more than 700 locations, including NAPA Auto Parts stores, TRACTION heavy vehicle centres and Altrom/Auto-Camping imported parts facilities.
